  When Day Is Done

If the day is done ,

If birds sing no more .

If the wind has fiagged tired ,

Then draw the veil of darkness thick upon me ,

Even as thou hast wrapt the earth with The coverlet of sleep and tenderly closed ,

The petals of the drooping lotus at dusk.

  From the traverer,

Whose sack of provisions is empty before the voyage is ended ,

Whose garment is torn and dust-laden ,

Whose strength is exhausted, remove shame and poverty ,

And renew his life like a flower under

The cover of thy kindly night .

DAY by day I float my paper boats one by one down the running stream.

In big black letters I write my name on them and the name of the village where I live.

I hope that someone in some strange land will find them and know who I am.

I load my little boats with shiuli flowers from our garden, and hope that these blooms of the dawn will be carried safely to land in the night.

I launch my paper boats and look up into the sky and see the little clouds setting their white bulging sails.

I know not what playmate of mine in the sky sends them down the air to race with my boats!

When night comes I bury my face in my arms and dream that my paper boats float on and on under the midnight stars.

The fairies of sleep are sailing in them, and the lading is their baskets full of dreams.
Defamation

Why are those tears in your eyes, my child?

How horrid of them to be always scolding you for nothing?

You have stained your fingers and face with ink while writing–is that why they call you dirty?

O, fie! Would they dare to call the full moon dirty because it has smudged its face with ink?

For every little trifle they blame you, my child. They are ready to find fault for nothing.

You tore your clothes while playing–is that why they call you untidy?

O, fie! What would they call an autumn morning that smiles through its ragged clouds?

Take no heed of what they say to you, my child.

Take no heed of what they say to you, my child.

They make a long list of your misdeeds. Everybody knows how you love sweet things–is that why they call you greedy?

O, fie! What then would they call us who love you?

  Unending Love
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times,
In life after life, in age after age forever.
My spell-bound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms
In life after life, in age after age forever.
Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together,
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.
You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount
At the heart of time love of one for another.
We have played alongside millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell –
Old love, but in shapes that renew and renew forever.
Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you,
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life,
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of everypoet both past and forever.
  Rabindranath Tagore

Unending love

我很喜欢他的《Let life be beautiful like summer flowers》(生如夏花),读起来给人启迪和激励,“I believe I am born as the bright summer flowers. Do not withered undefeated fiery demon rule”.

诗人比喻所有的爱情会像汇入时间的河流一样,不会结束,“In life after life, in age after age forever”。

Today it is heap ed at your feet, it has found its end in you,

The love of all man’s days both past and forever:

Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life,

The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –

And the songs of every poet both past and forever.

比如诗歌的倒数第五行“Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you,The love of all man’s days both past and forever:”这里就用了倒装。可以调整为“Today the love of all man’s days both past and forever is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you.“ 作者用倒装是为了突出解释“the love of all man’s days both past and forever” 就是冒号后面的那两句。 And the songs of every poet both past and forever.“插入“merging with….“调整为“The memories of all loves and the songs of every poet both past and forever merging with this one love of ours“。

spell-bound adj.

spell v.

bound: bind的过去式和过去分词  be bound (by sth  受(某事物)约束

chronicles n.

Clad  adj.

piercing adj.

“Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time”这句诗可翻译为“披着北斗之光穿破黑暗”

We have played along side millions of lovers, shared in the same

Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell–

Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you

The love of all man’s days both past and forever:

Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.

The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours–

And the songs of every poet past and forever.

it thunders and the wind rushes screaming through the void.

the night is black as a black stone.

let not the hours pass by in the dark.

kindle the lamp of love with thy life.

The most distant way in the world

The most distant way in the world

is not the way from birth to the end.

it is when i sit near you

  that you don’t understand i love u.

The most distant way in the world

is not that you’re not sure i love u.

It is when my love is bewildering the soul

but i can’t speak it out.

The most distant way in the world

  is not that i can’t say i love u.

it is after looking into my heart

  i can’t change my love.

The most distant way in the world

is not that i’m loving u.

  it is in our love

we are keeping between the distance.

The most distant way in the world

is not the distance across us.

it is when we’re breaking through the way

we deny the existance of love.

So the most distant way in the world

is not in two distant trees.

it is the same rooted branches

  can’t enjoy the co-existance.

So the most distant way in the world

is not in the being sepearated branches.

it is in the blinking stars

  they can’t burn the light.

So the most distant way in the world

  is not the burning stars.

  it is after the light

they can’t be seen from afar.

So the most distant way in the world

is not the light that is fading away.

it is the coincidence of us

is not supposed for the love.

So the most distant way in the world

is the love between the fish and bird.

one is flying at the sky,

the other is looking upon into the sea.
